During Advent German towns put up their Christmas decorations and the Christmas markets open. Colourful stalls selling handicrafts, Christmas decorations and sweets, as well as cultural events, music, exhibitions and children’s entertainment create a wonderful pre-Christmas atmosphere that is unique to Germany. A lot of the DZT offices abroad publish special brochures on Christmas Markets in Germany, giving information about dates and special offers. Many tourist information offices and hotels in small towns and cities offer special arrangements during this period, including shopping trips to large cities as well as cultural events including Advent concerts or organ recitals. In the following chapter on Christmas Markets we have selected some of these offers which may be interesting for travel agencies when planning offers for their customers.
