City and Event Offers / Leipzig

Leipzig

The historical trade fair city of Leipzig enjoys an excellent reputation as one of the major music metropolises of Europe. Famous composers such as Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann or Wagner lived and worked here. The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra or the St. Thomas's Boys Choir are well-known all over the world, and the city's festival calendar is full of exciting events.
Leipzig is also a centre of the arts, especially since the "New Leipzig School" has become a talking point in the international art scene. Many young artists live, work and exhibit in the Spinnerei, a former cotton mill, which has been transformed into a lively 'art community'.
Leipzig's St. Nicholas's Church is the starting point of an almost unbeleivable event - the Peaceful Revolution of 1989. This paved the way for Germany's re-unification in 1990.
Today the city presents itself as a historical yet modern and dynamic metropolis, with a wealth of beautiful architecture, shops, cafés, restaurants and museums.
Population: c. 507,000. Guest beds: c. 11,000.
