Jena

Jena has many faces. The university, founded in 1558, has seen many famous personalities as students or teachers. Goethe supported the university and Schiller was a teacher there. Ernst Abbe and Carl Zeiss made fundamental optical inventions here. The well-known Zeiss microscopes and one of the largest collections of spectacles can be seen in the Optical Museum. Jena has the world’s oldest planetarium where visitors can see interesting demonstrations. In addition Jena’s surroundings add to the charm of the town.
