Erfurt

Erfurt – rendezvous with a medieval city
Erfurt, founded in 742 by Boniface, is a city in the green heart of Germany. Situated at the intersection of major trading routes, Erfurt prospered in the Middle Ages as a powerful centre of trade and learning. Its cultural strengths attracted great personalities (Luther, Bach, Goethe, Napoleon). Erfurt’s numerous lovingly restored Renaissance and half-timbered houses bear witness to the town’s former wealth. These houses, as well as other buildings and the famous Krämerbrücke bridge constitute one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval town centres.
Population: 200,000, guest beds: 4,000.
