Neuss

Neuss, one of Germany’s oldest towns, shares the Rhine riverfront with Düsseldorf. The town dates back as far as 16 B.C., the heyday of the Roman Empire. Today, many historic sights and a lively cultural scene create a fascinating atmosphere. A good example is the internationally recognised Shakespeare Festival, taking place every summer in Neuss’ Globe Theatre, which was built just like the historical Shakespeare playhouse in London. The Insel Hombroich Museum is an “experience of art paired with nature:” 11 sculpture-like buildings are hidden on a park island with terraced scenery, where art from different countries and several centuries is displayed in a unique setting. Snow enthusiasts can enjoy year-round skiing in Germany´s largest indoor skiing hall.
Population: 152,000, guest beds: 2,830
