City and Event Offers / Coburg

Coburg

The northern bavarian city of Coburg lies in the beautiful hilly countryside between the Thuringian forest and the upper Main valley. Coburg has a rich Franconian and Thuringian heritage and for a long while it was the ancestral seat of the dukes of Sachse-Coburg and Gotha and meeting place of European nobility. It only became part of Bavaria in 1920, by a popular referendum. The ‘king of waltz’ Johann Strauss was one of Coburg’s most famous citizens, and Martin Luther also lived here for a while.
Population: 42,000, guest beds: 1,087.
